Monica R. Richardson is Senior Managing Editor at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, part of Cox Media Group Atlanta (the publishing, digital media and broadcasting subsidiary of Cox Enterprises Inc). She has held various leadership roles at the AJC in the last 13 years and was promoted to the Senior Managing Editor role in February 2018. Before taking on this new role, she served as Digital Managing Editor for 6 years, shaping digital strategy in the newsroom. As Senior Managing Editor, her oversight includes teams that handle production for all Atlanta Journal-Constitution digital platforms, multi-media and social media platforms as well as a large team of daily and breaking news reporters, digital audience specialists and senior editors. Before joining the AJC, Richardson worked at newspapers in Kentucky, Florida and Virginia. She is a member of various journalism industry associations. She has been named among the Atlanta Business League’s Top 100 Women of Influence and has served as an esteemed juror to the national Pulitzer Prize board. She is a graduate of the Leadership DeKalb Class of 2017, the Poynter Institute’s 2018 Women in Digital Media Leadership Academy as well as the COX Media Group Leadership Program and a long-time advocate for the company’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council. She currently serves on the board of the Atlanta Press Club and previously served on the boards of the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists, Associated Press Media Editors and the Georgia APME.

Beyond the journalism industry, she has proven skills in leadership, strategic direction and planning, design thinking, marketing, project management, talent and organizational development, analytics and training. She also serves an advisor to the board of The Keitt Institute, an organization that equips young women with the tools to discover their unique purpose. She enjoys working with young journalists and mentoring/empowering young leaders. She is an advocate for foster care and adoption. She is a woman of faith and a member of Cascade United Methodist Church where she serves as an usher, Sunday School Teacher for middle schoolers, and a member of the Sleeping Bag Ministry. She grew up in the DC/VA area and is the mother or a busy and very sociable six-year-old who she adopted from the foster care system.
